Center Information & Calendar

Our innovative program is a four-day per week treatment model, serving children Monday-Thursday.

Each child's treatment plan will consist of a combination of Center-based and Home-based services, with children being placed in either a morning or afternoon session at the Center. Center placements are provided from either 8:30-11:30am or from 1:00-4:00pm. The final decision about your child's placement will be determined by which time slot provides the best fit for your child's needs. Families may schedule home-based service support during the times their child is not at the Center, and families are also provided with an individualized home format in order to guide parents in how to make everyday moments meaningful teaching moments. Research supports the effectiveness of our goal of providing the maximum number of hours of engaged time across all settings in a child's life (Dawson & Osterling, 1997; Harris & Handleman, 1994). Since there remains no research to support the long term effectiveness of Center-based services alone--we take parent education and involvement very seriously.

A Peer Model Program is also open to a limited number of typically developing children ages 3-5 years on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Peer models will also be placed in corresponding time slots with their same-aged counterparts with ASD.

Each week, the Center will conduct multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings in order to update each child's goals. Parents are invited to attend a monthly meeting with the team to review progress. Our focus is on providing fully integrated services across all necessary disciplines and within the home, therefore frequent communication and coordination among all parties is vital.

Staff to Student Ratios

We strive to maintain a staff to student ratio ranging between 1:1 and 1:4 (with a possibility of 1:4 on Peer Model days only). Ratios will be dependent upon the individualized skill being taught during the given session, whether the presence of peer models is helpful for the session, and will vary as children move throughout the course of their individualized day. The decision to place a child within an individual or small group session is based on the current assessed needs of the child, and will be modified accordingly as the child's needs change over time.

Calendar

The Brown Center is a highly unique model of care in many ways. Our fully integrated services are offered as an annual service plan operated on a year-round calendar basis. In this way, we are able to best deliver a reliably intense and cost-effective continuum of care--features so often missing among many other traditional models of early autism treatment.

what people are saying

"The story of how the Liske's crafted a program for Ben where no program existed, and are continuing to learn to challenge him in the ways he needs to bring out the unique, wonderful person that he will become, is a story that will inspire and challenge ALL of us to become better parents to our own children."
